Nr. 809 – Some Rereleases 

 

Re-Releases, also heurige Wiederveröffentlichungen von drei Alben stehen am Programm dieser Sendung. Zuerst gehen wir zu einem Album von Chris Rea aus dem Jahr 2002, das von vielen als sein bestes bezeichnet wird. Dancing Down the Stony Road ist mit Sicherheit sein bluesigstes und ein echtes Delta Blues Album. Und auch die Herren von Rush wandelten gelegentlich, wenn auch sehr selten, auf Solo-Pfaden. Geddy Lee veröffentlichte 2000 My Favourite Headache und Alex Lifeson unter dem Pseudomym „Victor“ 1996 das gleichnamige Album. 

 

Erdiger Blues und Prog-Rock: ich hoffe, dass die Zusammenstellung gefällt.

Nr. 808 – Live Special: FRANK ZAPPA and the MOTHERS Roxy and Elsewhere

 

Roxy & Elsewhere ist das zwölfte Album der Mothers of Invention. Es handelt sich um einen Live-Mitschnitt, die meisten Stücke wurden im titelgebenden Roxy Theatre (West Hollywood) in Los Angeles aufgenommen. Bei den „Elsewhere“-Stücken handelt es sich um Son of Orange County, Trouble Every Day und Penguin in Bondage, die im Auditorium Theatre in Chicago und im Edinboro State College in Pennsylvania aufgenommen wurden. Die meisten Kompositionen wurden auf dem Album erstmals veröffentlicht, lediglich More Trouble Every Day (Album Freak Out)war schon früher erschienen.

 

Musikalisch bietet das Album Progressive Rock und Rock, auch Jazz- Elemente klingen an. Es enthält mit Echidna’s Arf (Of You) und Don’t You Ever Wash That Thing? zwei virtuos gespielte Instrumentalstücke. In dem Stück Be-Bop Tango (of the old Jazzmen’s Church) findet sich auch eine für Zappas Konzerte im englischsprachigen Raum typische Publikumsbeteiligung („audience participation“). Diese Komposition enthält außerdem das bekannte Zappazitat „Jazz is not dead, it just smells funny“ (Jazz ist nicht tot, er riecht nur komisch).

Nr. 806 – R.I.P. John Mayall

 

John Mayall ist nicht mehr. Am 22. Juli d.J. ist er in Kalifornien verstorben, gemeinsam mit Alexis Korner war er wohl einer der Väter des britischen Blues. Und die Geschichte der Rockmusik wäre ohne ihn sicher anders verlaufen. Viele großartige Musiker haben mit ihm zusammengespielt: Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Mick Tayler, Kack Bruce, Jon Hiseman, Harvey Mandel, John McVie und auch Mick Fleetwood, um nur einige zu nennen.

In dieser Sendung Gedenken wir dem großartigen Bandleader, speilen einige Stücke aus der Frühzeit seiner Bluesbreakers und lassen die Sendung mit drei Songs von seinen beiden letzten Alben ausklingen.
