Nr.317: Don Airey & his bandmates

40 Years in Classic Rock – unter diesem Motto stand die Tournee von Don Airey & Band, die ihn kürzlich nach Velden ins Bluesiana und Wien in den Reigen gebracht hatte. Der Deep Purple-Keyboarder hat überzeugende, begeisternde Konzerte abgeliefert und mir einiges über seine Pläne für die nächsten Wochen und Monate verraten.

Großartig war aber auch die band, die er dabei hatte. Das waren Darrin Mooney an den Drums (Primal Scream, Gary Moore), Laurence Cottle am Bass (Sabbath, Clapton), Carl Sentance – Vocals (Persian Risk, Krokus, Nazareth) und Simon MacBride – Guitar (Sweet Savage). Und diese vier Herren möchte ich auch ein bisschen näher vorstellen

               PAT TRAVERS BAND
              At the Irridium

Der in Toronto geborene Pat Travers begann mit dem Gitarrenspielen nach einem Jimi Hendrix Konzert, welches er in Ottawa besucht hatte. Sein Debut Album erschien bereits 1976 und obwohl seine erfolgreichsten Releases Makin Magic und Crash And Burn schon mehr als 30 Jahre alt sind blickte er nie wehmütig auf diese Zeit zurück.

2012 gab die Pat Travers Band ihr Comeback mit neuem Line-Up bekannt, bei welcher der Schlagzeugers Sandy Gennaro hinter den Fellen zurückkam, und ein neues Album Can Do im folgenden Jahr veröffentlicht wurde. Ein großartiger Release bei dem Travers und seine Band besser spielten als jemals zuvor. Auf der darauffolgenden Tour entschied er sich für die richtigen Hallen um die neue Live CD Live At The Iridium NYC aufzunehmen.

Pat erzählte dazu: The two shows that we played at the Iridium Club in February 2012 marked the first time I ever really felt totally comfortable and at home in The Big Apple . The people at the Iridium just made us feel like we were honorary New Yorkers. It was awesome. Having done an extensive European tour at the end of 2011, a Caribbean Cruise Ship gig and a bunch of concerts at the beginning of the year the band was on fire. So being able to record a set at the Iridium in New York City was the perfect venue and time to capture the PTB at their smoking best. We were fortunate to have Jon Paris join us on Blues Harp for two classic tunes and he just tore it up and showed us all how the Blues is really done.
